Engineering
Professional Engineer
I am a professional engineer, licensed by
APEGGA.
I am also a member of ASME.
Engineering Experience
Pason Systems Inc.
I joined Pason in May 2001, as a
Senior Software Engineer. I'm currently working on setting up
CVS
for the next generation of our
Electronic Drilling Recorders.
EFA Software Services
I was a Senior Programmer Analyst with
EFA Software Services Ltd.. I worked there from November 2000 to
May 2001.
EFA builds software for stock market automation. I worked on the Trading
Engine, which is part of
Horizon.
As buy- and sell-orders are entered, they queue inside the engine.
When they match, the Engine performs the trade.
Neles Automation
Before I joined EFA, I was a Senior Systems Engineer with
Neles Automation SCADA Solutions. I was employed there from December 1996
to November 2000.
Neles makes computer systems that monitor and control oil & gas pipelines.
SCADA stands for Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition.
As the only practicing mechanical engineer on staff,
I provided techincal support for applications such as:
Metering
Batch Tracking
Computational Pipeline Monitoring
Hydraulic Profiling
Temperature Profiling
I was responsible for software design, development and maintenance. Mostly,
we coded in C; we used a subset of Sybase SQL for our real-time
memory resident databases.
I worked very closely with our customers; some
of my time was spent at customer pipeline control centres.
In 2000, I became more involved in Project Lead/Project Management
responsibilities. These included requirements definition, cost estimation,
and scope control. I was the primary customer contact, and led a small
team of developers.
I have been involved in projects for the following pipeline companies.
Chevron Pipelines, Houston, TX
Marathon Pipelines, Findley, OH
Colonial Pipeline Company, Atlanta, GA
Santa Fe Pacific Pipeline, Orange, CA
Kenya Pipeline Company, Kenya
Calnev Pipeline, California
Sincor, Venezuela
Engineered Air
Before Neles, I worked at
Engineered Air
as a Design Engineer. I was there from October 1994 to December 1996.
My primary responsibility was design of finned-tube heat-exchangers for
use in industrial and commercial HVAC.
I also designed heat-recovery exchangers using heat pipes. Again, these
were for industrial and commercial applications.
Part of my time was spent adminstering a small LAN.
Education
I attended
University of Manitoba for four years.
I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1993.
My specialization was fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and CFD.
My undergraduate thesis was entitled,
"Orthogonal Curvilinear Coordinate Grid Generation for Use With
Computational Methods for Thermofluids."
Fluids and Engineering Links
I subscribe to Journal of
Fluids Engineering, as well as the Journal of Heat Transfer. I get them
both through ASME. I also receive
Mechanical Engineering Magazine as part of my ASME membership.
Another online source is the
International
Journal of Fluid Dynamics.
